trouble wmp vista wav files

For some reason, WMP in Vista won't play .WAV files, such as my voice messages from the ATT VOIP service. Used to work.

Mine doesn't play WAV's either. Change the Default Program to point to c:\windows\system32\sndrec32.exe and that'll work :o)

Hmm... your right actually... WMP11 certainly supports it. Try the Options menu, then "File types" tab and try clicking the appropriate box - see the screenshot attached. If that doesn't work, go back to using the standard Sound Recorder :o(

No "file types" in WMP Vista Options tab. If you go to Control Panel, Default Programs, Set Default Programs, WMP, and set .WAV, it still doesn't play. Hmmm.

I actually took out the "File Types" tab in Vista - instead you would use the system's Default Programs control panel for association functionality. It's a lot more interesting since it allows for per-user associations. =)

Hmm... your right actually... WMP11 certainly supports it. Try the Options menu, then "File types" tab and try clicking the appropriate box - see the screenshot attached. If that doesn't work, go back to using the standard Sound Recorder :o(

When I double-click on a .WAV file, the error message from WMP is "WMP cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compres the file."
In Control Panel, Default Programs, Set Associations, there are no entries in the file type list for WMA, WAV, etc.
So what to do?

As I said, change the Default Program to point to c:\windows\system32\sndrec32.exe and that'll work :o)
